After 34 LONG days at sea, we arrived to the island of Tahuata. Typically, boats arrive to Hiva Oa but at the time of our arrival the anchorage had a record high of boats along with winds not conducive for this anchorage.
Anchorage with rocks and sand. Be patient and look for the sand patches. Try to anchor to the left side as close to the beach as possible to be close to the Manta Rays.

Usually very crowded anchor with soft mud base. Rocky floor closer to the wall with trees. Be sure not to anchor in the path of the cruise/cargo ship or the gendarme will knock on your boat at 0300 and have you move.

There are three small supermarkets - one before the gendarme on the right (has fresh eggs at 7:30 and 2pm), street before community center two on the left with the 2nd one being the most well stocked. Visit all three to find most of what you need. There is a multipurpose store just past the gendarme with boat items, fishing, clothing & other essentials, bank.
Hanavave Bay also known as the picturesque "Bay of Virgins"
Hike to the grotto waterfall about 45-minutes. Follow the main road in town, up a winding hill to reach the trail head.
A very tiny shop is located on the right side of the main road. Locals are often very friendly and happy to sell you their fruits and veggies from their own gardens.
Hakahau - small anchorage due to large cargo ships that need room to maneuver. Must use a stern anchor. Try to anchor closest to dingy dock for best protection from swell.

Raroia
We enjoyed Raroia for 4 days and met long time online friends in person - Brown & Eileen Council SV Blown Away. Crystal clear water with sandy botttom.
Great snorkeling with sandy holding. Must float your anchor chain.
Airport Anchorage
Limited space with good holding in 70ft of water. All of the moorings are owned and not available for personal short-term use.
Cooks Bay
Anchorage is limited to around 15 boats. Depth is about 80ft with strong winds (Venturi effect). Sea floor does drop off quite sharply.
Te Honu Iti Restuarant
Weekend fire shows for dining quests. We ate here several times and enjoyed the pizza and hamburgers. Dingy dock available
